In all seriousness, I take melatonin. You can buy them at any vitamin store, takes about 30 minutes but totally knocks me out. Great sleeps, no grogginess in the am.

This seriously works for me...
Permit yourself to get out of bed and return to your computer for ten or twenty minutes of solid typing, no breaks (depending on how long you can do it. I do 20 mins personally).
Open up your email app, and start typing an email. Get a sort of narrative rhythm going (as I am doing here) and set yourself the task of writing something like a fictional letter, an instructional dialogue (as I am doing here) or a short story. I often choose to write in the style of a deliberately bad detective crime writer.
Then once you have established a writing flow, start to switch out sensible words for other words that still work, but mean nothing. Begin with obvious clowns, swapping them for orange blocks of crude language whenever your sister calls. Mix up some instructions with a shirt label and crush the compound with military zest.
Remove the heads from a pack of six, mortify them and cradle a fool lovingly in a box of cold snaps, then worry. After fourteen years, launch a desk accessory, reap the rewards, and act all sniffy.
^ Twenty minutes of that and I guarantee you that you will go to sleep when you return to your bed, because whatever thoughts were keeping you awake before have now been diffused by random gibberish that your brain can't make any sense of.
- Haha this is crazy enough to try at least once. I like it.foobaz
