I would love to update everyone on the Epic Six, but it turns out that it's so popular that it is back ordered. Additionally, there are only a couple of vendors in the US that even sell the kit. I spoke to the owner of kaleidoscopecardsandcrafts.com and they're hoping to ship it out this week. I still need to get a decent roller (I read that the one included in the kit is a piece of shit) and some custom plates created. Speaking of plates, I don't even know what to design for my first print.

let us know where you get the replacement roller from! some of us (i.e. my gf) are salivating over this.

i love the way it looks.
though i'm not sure what it does.
is this for doing emboss on paper?- LOL. It looks like utter shit! I can't believe you said that. Also, read up if you don't know what it does.monospaced
- It's a die-cutting tool that one can purchase a letterpress kit for. Does that help?monospaced
- ok mono, if you say it looks like shit then it does like shitmonoblanco
- ha.
i did read up on it .
:)
thank you sir.
:)monoblanco - I mean, seriously, the Epic Six itself looks like a child's toy, and not like a letterpress...not that attractive.monospaced
- lol. i love. what is it?inkpink

For the replacement roller I'll probably walk into an art store in NYC. If I can't find what I'm looking for, I'm calling up Boxcar Press. See the link in my original post. I'll also be ordering plates from them.

How's it going with this?

Does it only use poly plates? Otherwise you can just run down to the art supply and get a small linoleum block to carve.
- nvm. it could be done but it would be a pain.ismith
- I don't think hand carving a block would produce effective letterpress artwork, unfortunately.monospaced
- It's about precision and accuracy and level surfaces and such.monospaced
- actually it's commonplace to use lino-cuts... the blocks are premade almost exactly type height.ismith
- i was an intern at a letterpress studio in 09. i printed all my linocuts on a vandercook proof press.ismith

If I got one of those I'd probably make a huge, huge mess.

I have the Epic Six but I haven't really used it yet. a) I've been insanely busy at work and with freelance projects; b) I don't have a proper area set up to make this kind of mess; and c) I don't know what to make!

Actually, the whole letterpress kit, not just the Epic Six.

Got home late last night and the kit arrived (finally!). I still need to get artwork made into a plate so I can get started on my first test-runs. Could be awhile before I start cranking out letterpress artwork. Now taking suggestions.
- make yourself some business cards?scarabin
- IF I needed them, I guess.monospaced

Custom plates (about 6x9 inch) cost about $39. I'm in.

it sounds great. i think i would only be into it if i could make my own cuts. would hate to spend $40 and wait 2-4 weeks.
