Illustrator linked imagery Q... 33 Responses

Hi
Hopefully someone can gimme some wisdom on this but I fear it may be an impossible task.
I have a bunch of Illustrator files (CS4) which have linked (not embedded) images in them. The problem is, the paths to the images need to change so they will no longer sit in the same folder as the /ai files.
However, I now need to place these linked images into an 'images' folder and at the same time, I need to put the Illus file in an 'ai' folder - both folders will be adjacent to each other in a root folder.
With this structure, when I now open one of the Illus files (within the 'ai' folder) a dialog box asks me to relink the imagery, which will be a LONG process to do manually due to the mass of imagery I have linked into these Illus files.
So, I was wondering is there a way to get round that dialog box and somehow make Illustrator automatically search root/adjacent folders for the images it is asking for links to?
any help would be much appreciated!
Cheers
