i was playing dante's inferno last night when a switch that lets me into the next area quit working, effectively trapping me in an area i had already finished. went online and found that dozens of other people had the same problem and had to start the game over again from the beginning.
i was 40-50% done with the game.
oh well, at least it's fun.

@ scarabin.. the game Legends of Mana or Secrets of Mana on the SNES had that built into the game's storyline but they never explained that it would happen..
basically in the game there was this large outdoor flea market, very colourful and all full of stuff to see and do. there was an area that you had to cross the water, and if you crossed that spot more than 7 times i think is what it was, a pillar would form and thus that entry, the only entry back into the game was now closed off permanentely..
the problem was it wasnt activated with a sound or anything.. and you went thru the game looking at all the stuff you could see and clicking on everything trapped with no way out not having any clue what to do.
there was even a save spot right near that spot, and everyone would always save over their old game, making them trapped in that market area forever..
that was also if i remember correct was like 65% into the game.
the game was massive too. as i took me months to finish, and back then i put in more gaming time than now.. so that is alot of gaming but to have to start it over.. was brutal.*shakes fist at MANA!!!!*

you ever play armored core, e?
i was obsessed with it for a year. it's a mecha game in which you find (via missions) and purchase parts (there are thousands) to upgrade your suit or "core"it seems like a really good reference for you, 'cause it breaks the whole mech down into individual parts which all have different functions, etc. might give you some ideas...
