Queens of the Stone Age | Sunday 19th | Birmingham UK
Josh Homme announced he'd been smoking weed all day and that this show was gonna be a a little bit...uhh... stonery. It was. It was strangely intimate for an arena gig, like master swordsmen duelling in an opium den.
Myself and Morning Star Junior danced and grooved along with the others that were riding the lounge vibe. All the tunes you'd want were delivered. They were magnificent and so were we.
As we left I realised that there was a big Mark Lanegan shaped hole in some of the songs. We listened to Whiskey for the Holy Ghost all the way home.

Those fucking CAVALERA boys.
Pure thrash madness in full effect, with tracks from Morbid Visions and Bestial Devastation and a couple of Sepultura songs thrown in for diabolical measure.
Iggor smashing the drums like they owed him money and Max, well, is Max, metal as fuck 100% of the time.
8/10. Would devastate my morbid again.
*minus two points for the guy in front of me with Whitesnake hair the size of a caravan and some other cunt spilling beer on me.

Domi and JD Beck are amazing. They signed merch after the show and I snapped a group pic with my son. Good times. I didn't know much about Polyphia, but I enjoyed their set as well.

Friend asked me to join them to see Dark Funeral - an OG Swedish Black Metal band that began in the early 90's.
Friend is deep into the lore of Swedish BM, so this was like a studiebesök for both of us, with no firm idea what to expect and absolutely no pretensions - we tend to drift towards the more hardcore/noise end of the spectrum. We go in and the crowd are great - already a mass of corpse paint, tattoos on necks, faces, and heads, and a couple of guys who looked like they had just pitched up direct from their office jobs. But everyone was cool and there to see the bands. Except the motherfuckers with Burzum shirts on. We see you, bastards.
Anyway. Dark Funeral are tight as hell, never miss a beat, and never fuck up at all. One thing we didn't expect was props - at one point the singer brought out a cat-o-ninetails and started to whip the crowd. Songs about Satan, Hell, loving Satan, loving Hell, wanting to be Satan, all whip by in a furious 90 minute set.
My friend and I left with huge grins on our faces, happy to have witnessed, while not an epic and grand show, but for us at least, a show for the ages. Here's to another 30 years of Dark Funeral.
10/10. Would risk eternal damnation again.

Went to see sunn O))) last night. Probably the third or fourth time, last was pre-pandemic in Copenhagen and each time it changes me on a molecular level.
This tour is only the two main dudes, no additional members or instrumentation - just two continuous hours of the most intense, head-mangling and organ-crushing, glacial guitar power you can imagine. You can only stand there while the sound pummels you.
10/10. Would vibrate my eyeballs again.

- @Ian it was incredible. He went from very ambient to experimental jungle / breakcore to some sort of frenchcore. He played all sorts of music stylesmilfhunter
- It was the build up from relax to mental insane what made it so good. By far one of the best live shows iv'e ever witnessedmilfhunter
- When people say 'did he play windowlicker?' I'm always like 'Fuck knows!"Ianbolton
- Amon Tobin is like that too. I know everything from him but after the show I saw I'm not sure I recognized one song.CyBrainX

hans-joachim roedelius and friends
ex-kluster and others (berlin school) - played a couple of pieces, sang a little acapella, and then said "i'm empty" and left the stage.
a classic dalston evening of beard-stroking nonsense for balding old farts and young modular hipsters come to worship the great man.
totally ridiculous.- haha even with the review i'm jealous. that's kinda what i would expect from a roedelius performance tbfkingsteven
