  best buy's price for the 70-300 IS is inflated. here it is for $550:

  having said that, the 70-200mm f4L is regarded as having better optics and is the superior lens in terms of sharpness and focus speed, and it is what i would pick. but, it's up to you - the other lens does boast a longer reach and image stabilization.
