Also, I can imagine Apple will plug this heavily in the educational sector. It's cheaper than a laptop, yet runs, pages, numbers and keynote - all apps that students can make use of. Classrooms will be full of these in the next couple of years.

A lot of people are psyched about the iPad. Not me! My god, am I underwhelmed by it. It has some absolutely backbreaking failures that will make buying one the last thing I would want to do. Updated
Big, Ugly Bezel
Have you seen the bezel on this thing?! It's huge! I know you don't want to accidentally input a command when your thumb is holding it, but come on.No Multitasking
This is a backbreaker. If this is supposed to be a replacement for netbooks, how can it possibly not have multitasking? Are you saying I can't listen to Pandora while writing a document? I can't have my Twitter app open at the same time as my browser? I can't have AIM open at the same time as my email? Are you kidding me? This alone guarantees that I will not buy this product. No Cameras
No front facing camera is one thing. But no back facing camera either? Why the hell not? I can't imagine what the downside was for including at least one camera. Could this thing not handle video iChat?Touch Keyboard
So much for Apple revolutionizing tablet inputs; this is the same big, ugly touchscreen keyboard we've seen on other tablets, and unless you're lying on the couch with your knees propping it up, it'll be awkward to use.No HDMI Out
Want to watch those nice HD videos you downloaded from iTunes on your TV? Too damned bad! If you were truly loyal, you'd just buy an AppleTV already. The Name iPad
Get ready for Maxi pad jokes, and lots of 'em!No Flash
No Flash is annoying but not a dealbreaker on the iPhone and iPod Touch. On something that's supposed to be closer to a netbook or laptop? It will leave huge, gaping holes in websites. I hope you don't care about streaming video! God knows not many casual internet users do. Oh wait, nevermind, they all do.Adapters, Adapters, Adapters
So much for those smooth lines. If you want to plug anything into this, such as a digital camera, you need all sorts of ugly adapters. You need an adapter for USB for god's sake.Update: Why stop at 8? Here are more things we are discovering that suck about the iPad.
It's Not Widescreen
Widescreen movies look lousy on this thing thanks to its 4:3 screen, according to Blam, who checked out some of Star Trek on one. It's like owning a 4:3 TV all over again!Doesn't Support T-Mobile 3G
Sure, it's "unlocked." But it won't work on T-Mobile, and it uses microSIMs that literally no one else uses.- you got meJuniorSenior
- Clearly you completely failed to grasp what the iPad is meant for. If you want all this shit, get a laptop. Idiot.monospaced
- what is it meant for??dijitaq
- No Flash might be a deal breaker in a few years after all smartphones except iPhones have it.CyBrain

Ironically after being called a marketing genius by everyone Jobs really failed on that front today. Starting with the name - f*cking horrible. Maybe we'll get used to it over time, but way to make your product an object of ridicule in one fell swoop.
Also the marketing/ presentation graphics are surprisingly mediocre. What's up with the gloomy lake in all the product shots?
Having said that I will reserve judgement until I have a chance to try it. You can talk about spec this spec that but it's kind of irrelevant if the experience is really great (or not).

Well mono I agree with you too...
In our house (we both work from home most days), we have 2 macbooks, about 3 ipods (one for the car, one for running and one on some speakers in the kitchen, which also holds recipes), 2 iphones, a wireless printer, an airport for music in the house.
I read books on the 13in macbook pro, watch footie through Sky on the iphone. Read the guardian an other papers on an iphone app, run with nike + which is stunning, watch films on demand through Sky movies online. My wife a food writer blogs via her iphone in restaurants, and sometimes it leads to chefs coming out to say hello during the meal because they have a mac in the building monitoring themselves. I travel a lot and often review creative on my iphone, doing creative reviews on Skype on a laptop, accessing and writing email across various devices.
Our lives are fragmenting this way because it JUST works when you operate that way. I can see this device replacing have the apple shit I've accrued over time. I cant remember the last album or paper I bought, or movie I went and rented or when I watched a TV programme when the schedules told me too, I on demanded it.
Like you I can transfer files at work to a device like this, commute with it and make amends, get home and Mobile Me or via a basecamp app send back all my amends or thoughts. Get home and read the paper and answer some emails. Download a recipe, send my sister in Australia a photo or voicemail (and maybe down the line video skype). Access the Sky Sports app to watch football and download the papers for the morning commute or download a tv programme.
Its not perfect, but I dont think Flash is useful at all. Cant think of anything useful it does. Sure it looks great for advertising, but very little else...
This won't be hugely popular imo, but Apple will fasttrak the next version for xmas this year.
One thing id say is I watched the whole endgadget stream hating the fucking thing on esthetics alone, but the more i think about it, I get it.
Im sure the CEO of the BBC, EMI, PENGUIN, EA GAMES and the rest get it. They hype up apple because absolutely no one else is doing anything approaching this properly They need it, and if they need it they will produce amazing shit for it and we will use it.
The coolest shit on the iphone is the stuff other people supply... Google, Sky, etc etc
"Build it and they will come" and Costner once said. Just wait...
Just before everyone thinks im a complete twat i've developed and design half a dozen top apps for the app store, and my brains bouncing at the moment. I'll be on the phone to all my clients tomorrow with ideas, and that is what makes apple different.

so this means i have to eat one right?

The kindle has a screen that you can read for long periods though. And it's smaller. Much smaller. It perfectly serves 1 thing - the 'book'.
Of course I'm totally biased and hate apple - but this..... poor UI, poor design, no USP, tied down to apple proprietary software, and HUGE. I think they've rushed it, and I think they've missed a trick.
MS surface was more promising and innovative than this.
- a point...kezza_2
- The seemless communication of placing your phone on surface and being able to pull data right off it. Brilliant.moth
- The Kindle DX is the same size, actually.monospaced

Did they mention price?

Donations to Haiti just dropped significantly as everyone decided to save their money for Andre The Giant's iPhone.

i was informed moth would not be able to afford it...

Forget the fact that most video streaming websites use Flash as the video format...

So no Flash, but how about SilverLight :P
- kezza_20

It's great for people wanting to sign you up for a Non-Profit Organization on the street. Could also see Line Orders with pre-registerations, ticket booth sales, and giveaways.
Conferences around the world will appreciate this on a Marketing Level in terms of self promotion with a sales rep on a showroom floor.
- pc tablets are already used for these purposes...version3
- ukit0
LOL @ "It's great for people wanting to sign you up for a Non-Profit Organization on the street"
Sorry, I make donations, support charity, etc, but the last thing the world needs is to empower those people in any way
- ukit0
I agree it could become useful at meetings for small scale presentation/ demoing
