Nearest Stockist Look Up by postcode AS3 00 Responses

I'm struggling to find any information on where to start with this.
Within flash a user would put in their post code in & this would return a list of of nearest locations. The location list will be pulled in via XML.
I'm presuming flash has to send the users post code somewhere else to perform the 'nearest shop' function - or maybe not!? Who knows!?
Any idea at all on what kind of technologies one needs to use to perform the look up with flash?
Any help much appriciated!
