    Hello
I'm working on a logo that needs to be based from a 3D Polygon, more specifically a tetrakaidecagon (14 sides)

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good source where I can copy/ trace the basic (accurate) shape, I don't really know any 3D apps, and illustrator will do a tetrakaidecagon but its flat, and kinda looks like a circle with straight edges.

I know it's kinda weird request, but I'm going through google images and most of the shapes are flat or not accurate polygons so, maybe someone knows here?

I would love this in vector format, but at this point I don't mind tracing it from a small gif, it doesn't look like it would be hard to do if I had the right image.

    thanks in advance!

    Just to illustrate:
this is what I usually find: (flat)

Looking for something like this: (3d)

i think most 3d softwares do this as easily as you do the flat one in illustrator.
maybe try and install some demo and try to create it rotate and find the best angle.

    • recently formatted my machine and have no 3d soft installed at the moment, otherwise I would help yaESKEMA1/2
      thanks eskema!
I was hoping to find it online anyways

yeah, I think this should be pretty easy to achieve on 3D but, to be honest I'm intimidated by 3D apps, I would love to do some of the stuff people here do w c4d, on a budget I downloaded a copy of some free modeling software for mac, and I couldn't figure it out.

so I figure I can stick to what I know..

I just found this. I think the top right one is a tetrakaidecagon.

    • nice!
some of the sides look uneven though (not accurate) but that's exactly the kind of 3d I'm looking for

ahhh now I am not so sure...
Its hard to count the sides.
      AMOK3/6
its possible that is may never be a symmetrical shape?
      AMOK4/6
I think its possible, what I mean by accurate is that is hmm.. mathematically exact?Meeklo5/6

Download free version of Sketchup if none of the above do what you want. You could get the basic shape and just export to Illy.

    • thanks man! I will keep this as an optionMeeklo

    Eskema:

That link looks like it could work, but I'm a bit confused, are all those 14 sides? not that you should know, for some reason I thought there was going to be one shape only, but now that I think about it (and after browsing a little) they could be any shape huh?

14 sides 3D would be pretty basic, no? could almost just as easy draw it.

    • yes, that's exactly what I want to do, but I need the basic shape (is this it?)Meeklo1/3
      that's 14 sides by my countinkpink2/3
      thanks mang, downloaded!

i can make a 3D image for you in a few minutes.

    • that would be great if you dont mind, just basic skeleton so I can trace is great for meMeeklo1/2
this is harder than i thought.
im new to 3D. ive made a 24 sided cube thing..

Here's a question I have: a 4-sided die is a pyramid, so I think the shape in Illy won't be an accurate reflection of a 14-sided polygon. Not to get all D&D on you, but here's a 12-sided die

    http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/415D05hsZTL._SL160_.jpg

    • you mean, because of the 14 sides not showing without it rotating? I agree, this looks pretty similar to what I thought the shape look like thoughMeeklo1/2

    I think what you're after doesn't exist.
    as found here ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reg… ),
there's only some with 14 sides but none with all 14 exact shapes... this weird, I thought there would be one for any number of sides...

since my previous post didn't contain a question:
Which are you looking for, a 14-sided two dimensional image (like Illy drew) or a 14-sided 3D image, like inkpink's post?

    • a 3d image, just so I can trace and have as a skeleton for the logo, I could use the flat one but I don't think it translates very wellMeeklo1/2
      very well you know?
(see very first image on the thread)

I don't even know if its the right one to be honest, looks similar to Mayo's above

    • I'm sure no one will be calling me yelling HEY MAN THERE IS only 12 SIDES on that logo!Meeklo1/2
but I want to get it right just in case hahaMeeklo2/2
