there are 4 or 5 "Boston" accents, the city proper, north end / east boston / north shore, south boston / dorchester, south shore, etc.. they all have their root in the various immigrant groups that settled in each area, Italian, English, Irish, etc.. They're actually pretty distinct if you're familiar with them. The Italian / Boston accent is similar to the Italian / New York accent.
