  Does it give a failure error? Does the screen just not turn on? Do you *hear the HD spinning at all? Perhaps it's soemthing else and not the HD?

  +1 for jagara and jfletcher, try to establish what exactly is not working. Perhaps boot a rescue system from CD and see if that can see the drive, I use system rescue cd http://distrowatch.com/table.php… but it requires a willingness to use Linux.

  If the machine really cannot see the drive then try removing the drive and connecting it to another system, perhaps the drive is OK but the computer is broken.
