Make a 2x2 pixel image with a black pixel top left. Then edit > define pattern.

Then you can fill an image with that using edit > fill > pattern.

it's a simple preset pattern in fireworks.

make box > choose pattern from texture fill > export as flv > done

what lambsy is saying is that you don't even need to create it. It's a preset in fireworks. You can set the level of transparancy for the negative areas, too.Josev2/3

create a 4x4 psd with a transparent background
top left pixel and bottom right, paintthem black.
reduce the opacity of said black pixels
    edit > define pattern.

the pattern should appear in your pattern list now.

I'd be wary about doing at 2x2 - don't know if it's still the case, but making such small tiles that need so much repeating used to slow the shit out of browsers - I doubt it's that much different within Flash.

    I'd consider trying 20x20 upwards.

      I dunno, try it.detritus2/4
I mean, yes - it did. Don't know whether or not it still does - I haven't used a tile background in a looong time.detritus3/4
      Haven't worried about that since v4 browsers.ETM4/4
