@GeorgesII You mean the punk and hip-hop that was influential in your life no longer inspires the youth of today? Change is constant, progress is inevitable.

I always despised hip hop because it only brought the worst of the so called niggaz out, it advertised treating women like shit, having no familly nucleus, gangsta attitude, etc. It was a genre created to dumb down black people and once it got mainstream, you can see how crazy dumb a whole generation of so called wiggers. Yeah yeah I know you can point out those who had a positive message but the never could break to the surface compared to the gangsta bs.
Same goes for punk and all the other modern genre of music, there's a good book out there called Bruits by jacques attali, in which he describe how music is used as a precursor for the social change, http://www.notbored.org/attali.h…
if you read it and think about lady gaga, it gives me shudders...

- READING... BADDDusrper
- no just saying. people saying hip hop is dead and punk is dead they based that on certain channels and systems that they're accustomed tousrper
- saying hip hop is dead and punk is dead because its no longer like how it is in the 80s and 90s is just pigeonholing a genre of music towards a certain period of timeusrper
- all im saying is, not to be cliche, there are soooo many good shit out thereusrper
- i'm with you on lady gaga though. and don't even get me started on black eyed peas!usrper
- hah sorry on the word restraints.usrper

- you must be talking about that R&B/RAP crap they play on the radio and not Hip-Hopsyst_m

I see your point. The 'truth or origins' of the genres will always be corrupted and adopted by the the 'industry' trying to make a fast buck. But those truths and origins will have always been borrowed and influenced by other cultural movements. Show me the first punk band and i'll show you ten more that will also claim that title, same goes for Hip Hop and Rap in general.
My band toured with Agnostic Front, H20 and Sick of it All amongst others and the hardcore/straight edge credentials we'd assumed them to have were non existent. It seems that whichever level of the creative process you experience it's all smoke and mirrors.
Thanks for the tip on the book, it looks v interesting, I shall investigate.

Do you have any of your music online??
- Dr_Sparkleshine0
Thanks Georgesll for shitting all over truth and expression. You know in China these kids could be arrested for doing this. Of course, you can't be arrested for your cynical world weary euro-african fuckstick attitude on the internet, so you keep it up. Good work.
- GeorgesII0
Where you see truth and expression other see just basic anti conformism, do not confound them or you may end up arguing on the net.
Btw have you ever been to china or anywhere in Asia?
- Morning_star0
@GeorgesII - If only... The band split in 1999. We were what we termed 'metalicore'. Kinda influenced by Gorilla Biscuits, NY Hardcore, Quicksand, early Metallica, Helmet, Tool - we were neither metal nor hardcore but had our toes in both camps. We were based in the UK, also gigged with Strapping Young Lad, Above All, Understand, Lost Prophets(FFS!).
They were awesome days, and I managed to freelance my way through the whole thing. Sadly it's all too much work nowadays, what with my two children and an agency to run.- don't worry nothing is ever lost, its in the genes, give those kids a guitar and buy yourself some ear plugsGeorgesII
- You may be on to something there...

wow, they are smoking, have scary dogs and tattoos with spikey hair - they are DEFINITELY punks, eh?
sorry but i'm with GeorgesII. These kids are way too polite to be punks. Where's the hard drugs?, wheres the gobbing in each others faces? Wheres the ugly punk chicks you wouldn't go near with a bargepole incase you caught a lethal STD?
Also, the image of punk is meant to shock and kick against the establishment. With every other kid these days looking like that, the look doesnt shock anymore.

is this a comedy?

I mean, I get it. The time, political landscape and cultural viewpoints are the perfect combination for some sort of youth oriented revolt over there. But I think it is beyond weak that this always happens. Borrowing, wait not even that. Completely ripping from a movement and trying to make it their own. Their is no relevance to Punk now. It had it's time and stood for something in a specific era. Shit, some would even say that it was a contrived ideal from smart record execs. Now I am just rambling and I could talk music for hours but...
My point is that people have rare opportunities to make and create something special and original. Why not have a prog/punk/country/samba/polka/me... fusion movement? We just keep seeing the same shit over and over again. It's artistically pretty sad.

looks nice huh.
