It all goes back to biology.
Male and female primates have COMPETING mating strategies (behavior instincts) for the passing down of their genes:
The male's mating strategy is to impregnate as many healthy females as possible. Alpha males have indeed done through our species' entire history...
Meanwhile, the female strategy is to select the most reliable protector/provider male who will increase the chances of her offspring's survival. We all know that women ultimately control sex and this is why...
Marriage is thus an institution that is set up to protect the female mating strategy from the male one. And as long as there are children involved, it's not such a bad idea.
Although I would advocate males who can provide adequate resources and care for multiple wives with children being allowed that privilege.

Ok, i'll play the game for a bit..
You're correct in saying that not all the blame can be laid on Tiger. There are two sides to everything and i'm sure Elin played her part.
But to say marriage is a preconceived ideal of a man/woman relationship.... The institution of marriage and the adherence it places on monogamy has been an 'ideal' for thousands of years now. To say that the notion is "preconceived" is ignorant.
But let me get this straight. You're saying it's socially and culturally acceptable for our Role Models (both Elin and Tiger) to act the way they have? By entering into an alleged monogamous institution and willfully ignored the public's expectations of that institution?
I don't buy it. I think most married couples know better than that.

"End of story." ? hahaha
um no, do you not speed, drink and drive, smoke pot, cheat on your taxes, not tell them when you get too much change back, etc? trust me there are a billion (give or take) instituted rules you willfully ignore everyday, marriage is a system to control economics and preconceived ideals of man woman relationships.
i don't want to hear that because he's married he has to act diffrent, "no, it ain't like that"
the only person he has to answer to is his wife, fuck what you and everyone else who is telling him he's wrong has to say. you don't live his life you don't make his decisions.
trust me, she knows why he cheated...
also, there is a word for women who sexual relationships are funded by money.
he's just paying a shit load of money just like kobe, where you and i make the same i'm sorry payments but without the high price

v3,
Your argument is valid to a point. However, it's the fact that the institution of marriage is supposed to represent a monogamous relationship wherein both parties are respectful of eachother (ok, fine, to certain religions and cultures it is supposed to). Of course if he was single, having sex with multiple partners and relationships with different women the story would parttake an entirely different tone.
But the fact remains the dude (Tiger Woods) was married. End of story.
If your intention is to simply cheat on your spouse then why fucking waste the time and money going through the motions?

that article is hilarious
The 83-year-old said: "I think the only surprise in it, quite frankly, is that anybody would be surprised. If you're a good-looking guy and young and healthy, the notion that there would be something else going on, well, marriage is just a convenience.
"It's very nice for raising kids, but the notion that monogamy lasts forever is a wish."
No, Mr. Hefner, the only thing that is a wish is the notion that a multi-millionaire Playboy publisher would understand real-world relationships outside of his Playboy mansion fantasy-bubble world.
I know plenty of devoted, monogamous couples who would die before they ever thought about cheating on their spouse.
Not surprising coming from Hef, however.
- i agree with him
