Hi Guys.
Trying to put a new logo design I have just had signed off into print ready artwork for a business card, letterhead, etc - problem is I designed it in RGB and I am using a multiply effect so when I convert the vector shapes in to CMYK for print the effects mess up the signed-off colours - which took ages to get agreed.
Anyway, "schoolboy error" I am sure your thinking but does anybody have any advice to solve this issue?
Thanks.

use the pathfinder tool to break your image into separate vectors. Than you can apply whatever color you want directly to those shapes.
Though, they might not be EXACTLY how you want them, since you are in a different colorspace.

Yes, what baseline suggested. But also, you'll have to calibrate your monitors to best assure you're even working with the colors you're insisting on, and even then they may print badly if they aren't working with the same, or similar enough profile.
- greens are especially notorious for noticeable color shifts from rgb to cmyk.dopepope
- yup. blues and greens are the worst to transfer from rgb to cmykbaseline_shift

I can get the light green and the dark centre section in to separate vectors - its the mid segments I can't get..

Its gonna take a bit of 2 shape at a time trial and error.

merge in pathfinder and apply pms colors? you might need to flatten transparencies or expand, depending on how you built it.

Basically the whole thing is made up of 3 separate shapes with four 'leaves' and each shape is the same colour then each one has the multiply effect...
- you are gonna have to keep experimenting with the pathfinder modes. its possiblebaseline_shift

just apply random colors to each shape in order to merge and separate. from there you can reapply the colors you intended to each separate shape...

- oh common. bp did not invent this symbol, nor do they own it.inkpink
- unless his client is direct competition there's no issue.inkpink
- Thanks ink. Thats why I didn't mention it...Stoph

- the point is to be creative as a designer and although you may take things as inspiration this bp mark is pretty iconic.EightyDeuce
- It's the first thing that popped into my head when I saw your logo.EightyDeuce

question #1...
are you printing the job CMYK or spot colors?
- Stoph0
CMYK probably - spot will get a bit expensive if I need 3 different greens???
- inkpink0
i would recommend 3 spot colors or CMYK if you're on a budget.
do not bother trying to do this with 1 or 2 inks and halftones... will look cheap.
and remove all instances of the multiply effect, even if its CMYK... create 3 flat greens or use 3 PMS swatches.
- inkpink0
quick guess off your RGB i'd suggest pantone 385, 383, and 382.
us the illustrator "bridge" swatches if its a CMYK job.
and just to confuse your client more, greens can shift a shitload on uncoated papers. use the uncoated swatches if it is going to uncoated... they are diff CMYK's.

Cheers for the help people - much appreciated. Duece, I used to work for an agency who had BP as a client, knew all about their logo. I wanted to use oranges/reds but the client was set on green. Cheers anyway!
- No doubt man, not trying to take a shot at you, it was just the first thing that shot into my head when I saw your mark.EightyDeuce

I appreciate people have opinions but I had a few pages of different ideas for the client to look at, her business is Bookkepping and accountancy type stuff - my rationale for this approach when I sketched it up was geometric (maths) shapes and flowers as the name of the business is a flower. Wasn't until I started messing about with colours and she picked green that the BP mark even came into my head. I don't really like the BP logo anyway.
Why do I feel like I have to justify myself to you people - well I have been a member of this site for ages and have listened to a lot of people talk a lot of shit, some people are worth listening to and some aren't. You know who you are.
Another reason being is that I have been stuck at home watching day time tv recovering from a knee op for the past six weeks and just needed to talk!
Merry Christmas!
