I use the PS3 Media server, and its awesome mate, I watch all my movies and etc from the mac, the only complaint is that it sometimes forgets which drives you wanna share... but it works fine otherwise

I could never get it to work for me, but I'm sure it was user error. Maybe I'll try it again.

Mine only works if the mac and PS3 are on wireless. If I plug in the Mac to one of the WAN ports I get a big red X. I also want to know if you can you select an external drive to share on media server?

this is what i use but it does cost a couple of bucks.
if you're after something free i think vuze has some sort of built in upnp services now

I also use MediaLink and it works the best out of anything I've tried. We watch tv daily off it and the only qualms I have are the occasional connection error (once a week maybe) which stopping the service and restarting fixes.
- BTW with this one, you just set up which folders its sharing and they show up in the media server on ps3.neferiu

Thanks to all. After a shit load of testing I went with the old standard Media Server. I was reluctant since I couldn't get my external drive to be recognized, but I got it working. Media server will not see an external drive in it's GUI, so all you have to do is type /Volumes/NAME OFDRIVE/Folder

just checked, mine is called medialink
http://www.nullriver.com/product…
i have a wired network, and my downloads go straight to an external drive on my mac that serves it up to the ps3
i've tried all the free ones and only ran into problems. bought medialink, installed and the ps3 automatically detected it
no probs yet after a few years of using it, just make sure your mac is powered on or the shared directories won't show up on the ps3 (obviously)

I thought tversity was available for the Mac, it is a shame that it isn't. I have tried many of these server software packages and tversity is the best I have seen. It plays more formats than the others. It re-encodes things on the fly to a format that the PS3 recognizes.

I've had much better luck with MediaLink - PS3 Media Server has been ok... but I've had a ton of issues with audio/video getting out of sync.
