antiglare or gloss screen? I currently have anti-glare on my 17" but was wondering if there are any pros to getting gloss.
anyone know when apple plans on new laptops? Isn't there a site out there that gives estimated turnaround for apple products?

Glossy looks nice under perfect lighting, but try to look at something in a sunny coffee shop with a glossy screen...I hate 'em!

so you already have a perfectly working 17" and you're looking to replace it? Why?

I like the glossy but I hate daylight and always work under artificial light.

I have an older 17" (1.67Ghz)... so, getting a more powerful machine + I like the resolution on the new screens.
My current machine has seen better days.
I tend to work in dark places.... but I do worry about glare. Are there any glaring benefits that gloss provide... no pun intended?

I hate glossy screens. It's the main reason current Apple desktop lineup (iMac and displays) is excluded from my shopping plans.
I'd rather look for an old 23"Actually, I investigated replacing iMac glass LCD cover with a matte one today, still have this tab open: http://forums.appleinsider.com/s…

highly reflective so you can see behind yourself and you always seem to see yourself in your work
glossy for durability on a laptop matte on your desktop monitor, ever notice there are no glossy desktop monitors? no need for the durability?

Interestingly, glossy MacBooks Pro 15.4" are 0.2 Kg heavier because of the glass. it's almost half a pound I guess.

"ever notice there are no glossy desktop monitors"
Throughout the history of personal computing all displays were CRT, and had glass coating, until the rise of the flat-screens.

I went matte. I always believed the gloss would be too reflective as well. Good to hear the same from others.
Thanks
