Does anyone have experience in throwing a launch party at a gallery for a Book/Zine or something of that nature? I have a couple ideas floating around for something like this but don't know where to start. If anyone can give me some insight into this I would greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance!

We have a book on press right now that's being produced for a local contemporary art museum.
When the book is finished we are going to have a members-only launch for the book at the museum. We came up with the idea to auction off framed plates that were used to print the book to help recoup some of the cost also. The printer gave up the plates willingly enough and didn't charge. Even if the turnout is not that high for the event the plates will remain on display and on-sale until they are all sold off.
Anyway, it's not for another month or so but will let you know how it turns out!

Cool d_rek, thanks for this. I just wasn't sure if I should have the book and everything 100% lined up but not printed yet, and then present it to potential gallery spaces, that's the big part that I am unsure of?

Since the publication was initiated by the museum (who is also our client) we pitched the idea to them and they liked it so they decided to plan the event.
I guess you'd just have to talk to the gallery and get a feel to see if they're interested in that sort of engagement. I know that all of our production wasn't a hundred percent in the bag but they liked the idea enough so they decided to go ahead with it.
