I'm trying to make some Gradients text in Illustrator, but Illustrator is applying the Gradients to every single letter separately, is there a way to apply the Gradients to the text as a constant Gradient?

gradient tool. use it.
select all the letters, drag the gradient tool to how you want the gradient to be, presto change-o, done.

you need to make a pathfinder of the text, so illustrator undertands it as a single object.

You have dragged a gradient across the letterforms in a manner that reflects your intention, haven't you? You haven't just selected the letterforms, then click-set the interior to be a gradient?

It needs to be a compound path. Just remember that once you make it a compound path if you release it, the terminals become their own objects.
- It doesn't need to be a compound path.Orbit
- Yes it does.duckofrubber

so I just tried the Greedo way. It works but I find this a bit unacurate. I mean you can make the gradient going further than the shape limit, ok... but if you want it to be exactly on the edge it's not that precise. unless I miss something.

Compound path.

NOT compound path, sheesh! Do any of you lot even use Illustrator?

we get a lot of things sent to us to print that are not compounded, and usually have to go back in to compound it before it goes thru the rip. it might look ok on the screen uncompounded though- but if you're sending the file on to someone else, it make's their job a lot easier if it is.

Compound path ftw.
1. Make text. Apple+Shift+O to make outlines.
2. Ungroup object. Apple+Shift+G.
3. Create compound path. Apple+8.
4. Apply gradient.
5. ???
6. Profit.

I don't understand the confusion. If you want the gradient to blend across all letterforms in a fluid way (which is the question pillhead asked), then you will have to vectorize and compound path that bitch.

if you want the gradient to precisely begin and end at exactly the first letter and end exactly at the last letter, then, yes, sure, compound path it. if you don't need it to be that super precise, then the gradient tool alone is enough.
also be sure to include a hidden locked layer filled with gay porn images, just to give the guys at the print shop a laugh.
