lol @ model.
I had 2 parakeets for years. They were great. Really friendly, fun, and easy/cheap to care for.
Heres a vid of em at my old college place.
&feature=player_profilepageSome parrots run in the hundreds of dollars, and are noisy and aggressive. I would highly reccomend parakeets or parrotlets which tend to be more docile and cheaper.
Most of these birds are tremendously social as well. If you plan on having time to spend socializing them, only get 1. They will bond strongly with you. If you dont have that kind of time, get 2, as they go crazy without a buddy. They are just less apt to bond with humans when they have a bird companion available.
Also, be aware that some species live for a very long time.

I grew up with a lotta birds in the house--Parakeets, Scarlet Macaw, African Grey, Cockatiel and Sun Conure (Dad owned a pet store--Mom fell in love and couldn't resist keeping 'em).
Toby is our Sun Conure. He was always kind of a dick, still is (likes to bite.) He ended up pulling a lot of his feathers out. Make sure you pay attention to it and love it a lot or else they end up like Toby.
Oh yeah and soooo true ---> "be aware that some species live for a very long time. " My sister and I are nervous about which one of us is going to end up with the Macaw. Don't do that to your children.

I used to have 2 Cuban Conures
Cool birds, but they really like to stretch their wings (we soon had paintings on our walls with bird-droppings dripping down them) - Kind of loud sometimes, but not annoying, nice pets, and we loved feeding them apples watching them play.
We thought they were both males for a few years, but after we gave them away to a friend, we later found them to be opposite sex.
We had one of the offspring for a while, that I donated to my school science class. That bird had a great life with all the other animals and lived a long time.

Are conures loud? I don't want to annoy my neighbors, I live in a apt building. I also don't want it to keep me up at nights.

How many hours a day do you have to play with them? Is just evenings ok? I don't want them going nuts during the day.

I had 2 finches for a while, they were cute. Males have better songs.
Then I got 2 cats.
Now I don't have finches anymore.

Birds are a lot of work to take care of, are annoying, and aren't always nice. I have two parrotlets and they're sweet when they want to be but are cage aggressive and feeding time is a battle. Make sure you research what goes into taking care of a bird and the type of bird you're considering. And whatever you do, don't buy one from a breeder or pet store. If you really want a conure you won't have any trouble finding one to adopt/rescue.

My mother's green parrot from when she was a kid is still alive. It must be about 45 years old now. Some birds can live a long time if cared for properly, and they'll demand attention that whole time.
The creepy part is that it mimics the voices of relatives that have died. It's like it's possessed.
