Blackberry Desktop Software prompts to make a back-up almost daily for me. When upgrading software, expect things like this (even on the iPhone) and back-up before installing.

Took several attempts for me to sync my Blackberry with my imac. Doesn't always mount properly and causes issues when shutting down. Not the best.

that's a shame dude, I just popped my black berry into the usb and hit the sync button and it worked perfectly well, also it always mounts etc. Not had any problems with mine. Sorry to hear about your guys issues.
