I have created the beginnings of a display typeface and wanted to be able to actually type it out. I tried using http://www.fontcapture.com/ and inputting the letters into the pdf template. you then have to export the vectors as a jpg or png to feed it back into the system so there are a few issues with losing fidelity of the curves.
Anyone know a really simple bit of software for converting illustrator vectors to fonts?

look into fontlab.
a bit of a learning curve but you'll be able to do exactly what you're talking about.

looks like typetool is the simplest?

a cheaper alt to fontlab is fontographer (which is owned and released by the same people - it used to be a macromedia product).
