what is the best for small business?

well all of those have a small single drive which is your boot drive, you would need to add storage, so you're mainly paying for the processor there. and if it's mainly files, you're not really even using the processor and . i would maybe look at a NAS RAID unit...

i like the synology unit. are they a good brand or what?! ive never heard of them - not that that means much

Synology are fairly new.. very feature rich, design a bit staid, internal/housing construction basic, but getting better all the time, web interface also getting better (they just added folder download support to Filestation). You have to buy your own drives. I was using for a small workgroup serving files on SMB, AFP, HTTP and FTP, plus their network backup is good for rsync-style block-level synchronization to another Synology server offsite.
