Can you tell me what it means when I cannot get my permissions to reset to normal. I've done repeated repairs and it usually shows nothing and resets to 33060.
What are special permissions? (16877)
I recently had a boot fail, and had to archive and install. I have not been able to update with combo packs and the like. I'm stuck on 10.4.2 and was on 10.4.11 and can't get back up and running normally.
I'm guessing I should just finish my backups and wipe the drive... but has anyone else had to deal with this problem and what did you do??
Thanks

Really? Upgrade? Not to snow leopard yet.
Anyone else?

Or even Leopard... Depends if you like tinkering or just want the most effective solution.

Leopard, maybe that's a good idea. I'm worried something bigger is wrong tho. Maybe it over heated and the processor is going or something like that.
It's crapped out on me before and I would've lost everything had it not been for my externals.
Anyway, I'm going to chuck in some more ram, finish my backups, read those link (thanks) and probably wipe the drive.
I'll let you know...

if its worth any i'm quite sure permissions are not your problem.
special permission messages and/or unable to fix are quite common.

Thing is when you upgrade to Leopard there is no need to wipe the drive. So many people do that when it really isn't needed, you can always see how it goes and do full wipe later if needed.
