Keylight in aftereffects:
Copy your footage to a new layer then adjust the colour of the layer so the background is very even. Don't worry about the colour of the subject, it will look terrible but that's OK. Now key out the subject and then apply this key to the layer below (which is properly coloured).

You can also check out this Video CoPilot tutorial, in which he has some great pointers when it comes to cleaning up and tweaking the edges for a really clean matte.

if the lighting was pretty flat, make sure the backgrounds you put the subject into are also lit pretty flat, like on a slightly overcast day, not a pre-sunset yellow side lighted scene with a flatly lit person stuck in...

I am realizing exactly this right now. Luckily the video was shot in a proper studio with a lighting team. So far everything is keying well. This tutorial seemed to explore an interesting technique:

Any additional techniques like this, or plugins that I may find useful (i hear key correct pro from red giant is one worth looking at) are the kinds of things i'm looking for tips on.

Keying can be a bitch, sometimes.
you are going to wish all people with long hair on your shots were bald. Now its when you realize how important is to have proper lighting.

thanks... oddly enough was just watching a tutorial showing this very method, and using the "status" function. I'll do a bit more research.
The footage is shot, and all green, without any possibility for a reshoot. The subject was wearing a red shirt and beige pants... we had some blankets around his feet (just out of frame) to help keep the green from reflecting onto him. I guess its time to open up AE and just start playing around.
Thanks again

I've been doing some keying myself in AE the last few days. Are you using the Keylight filter? Works great!
We had some troubles using green since our subject has lots of light yellows. So we switched to blue background and it worked amazingly.
If you're are using Keylight learn about the "status" function. Really useful.

hey... I've got all my footage: 4K 2:1 with good consistent lighting on the subject and the green screen. Just wondering if anybody has some tips and tricks they'd like to share. I'll be doing the keying in After Effects so any additional plugins or recommendations would be appreciated.. thanks.
