I have nothing but respect and admiration for a culture that when presented with options (such as tax incentives for having kids. stuff like that) to subvert a devastating decline in population, just skips all the normal things and goes right to robots.

Japanese Government Official #1: "So I don't know about this robot thing. I was thinking that a heavier tax burden on childless couples, or big tax incentives for larger families might be the way to go."
Japanese Government Official #2: "Well that wouldn't be very 'us' now would it?"
- official #3: also, the robots should have tentacles. lots of them. all with a penchant for rape7point34

what exactly will the robots solve, if the history of japan will end right there
because its subject -- the japanese people themselves -- will disappear? And rightly so. Fuck em
the japanese have come very far in making robots with facial expressions, walking robots with backpacks of batteries the size of a closet, which only last for 2 hours, and all of the stupidest gimmicks possible, pre-programmed by hand, but all of this is completely secondary
the main challenge cybernetics today are the problems of synthetic intellect, self-learning systems, but there have been very little progress in this field, mainly because our forthright single-processor style computers are fundamentally not fitted for this task, no matter how powerful they will become
and theres little expected to happen in the future
