Steven Schnipper, 56, was found dead in his apartment...
...who’d studied design under the legendary Paul Rand at Yale and won awards from AIGA was turned down for jobs as a salesclerk at Design Within Reach and a teller at Citigroup and TD Bank.

"Disease of depression..." eh?
Unfortunately I'm nodding off every couple of seconds here so I forget most of the second page... but from what I gathered, that really sucks, and everyone else please don't kill yourselves... night all

...(depression) was masked by his work and income and the prestige of the jobs... stripped away his protective layer. Steven couldn’t think straight...

he was pulling out $25k from his 401k every 3 months to pay his condo mortgage? holy shit, so $8k/mo.
and hell, I'm 35 and have yet to "make it big" in this industry. Like we always say around here "There's no such thing as a 40 year old designer."
- hey.. I'm 40.zenmasterfoo

Sad story indeed, but was it the depression that was interfering with his work. With a successful career history I cannot see why he would be out of work for long.

Damn that's a sad story. I know some people at Lauder I wonder if they knew him.

Title of this post reads like it was written by a 14 year-old. Is this how you want your obit posted on a design message board someday? And this guy had a respected legacy and portfolio to boot. Ah, Rodney Dangerfield was right... "no respect."
