Selling Out is something teenagers bitch about.
Get paid to do what you love – don't flip flop on who u were and what you become, and you're a success in my eyes.
PS. last i checke PJ has been huge and producing great music since their first album.
- well they did fall off there for a while but I think their back on track "producing great music"fooler2

Selling out is changing your art to appeal to a wider audience. I don't see that happening here at all.

I actually do see them changing their art to appeal a wider audience, this new song is much more upbeat and poppier then their last few releases but I guess I'm part of the wider audience now because I like and plan to go to Target on my way home to buy it.
Thought of going to an indie store but do not want to be judged for my purchase.- buy it on iTunes then watch some porn. its the American way.ninjasavant
- i only download "free" music, if I'm going to pay for something I want an actual product not files.fooler2

Anyone else feel like the song touches on the whole subject itself? Like he singing "fight to get it back again" about his money?

advertising people of all people should realize that it's all about brand management.
if you want your b(r)and to come off as genuine and "real", you don't do target commercials or otherwise take part in licensing partnerships that would put that at risk.
if you're basement jaxx and aren't concerned with that sort of thing, you do a pringles commercial.
brand integrity.
- *loves basement jaxx, thems smart gay house makers right thereversion3

I believe the term selling out implies compromising ones principals for money. Bandying about the term says a lot about what you think you know about the person you're describing and what their goals are.

Well I disagree - it definitely promotes Target

It promotes target just as much as a video game being sold exclusively at the sony store would promote the sony store.

if its a product or company that you believe in, it's not selling out
- If their whole goal was to sell records and make as much $ doing so by any means necc. it's not selling out either.neferiu

In the context you've brought it up in, I feel sort of dirty after watching that.

It looks like they are releasing the album without the support of a record label which is an interesting approach. Instead, they partner with Target and other retail outlets direct.

you'd think with nin and radiohead doing all this cool stuff on the internet they'd be able to think of something better than that
