Great article here on hating the Beatles.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magaz…"Anyone who says they are influenced by The Beatles, alarm bells start to go off; it means they are going to be completely ordinary. It's about writing this perfectly-crafted music, the classic song - in inverted commas. It's not about being adventurous."

The Onions take on the reissue:
Like most people, I was initially confused by EMI’s decision to release remastered versions of all 13 albums by the Liverpool pop group Beatles, a 1960s band so obscure that their music is not even available on iTunes. The entire proposition seems like a boondoggle. I mean, who is interested in old music? And who would want to listen to anything so inconveniently delivered on massive four-inch metal discs with sharp, dangerous edges? The answer: no one. When the box arrived in the mail, I briefly considered smashing the entire unopened collection with a ball-peen hammer and throwing it into the mouth of a lion. But then, against my better judgment, I arbitrarily decided to give this hippie shit an informal listen. And I gotta admit—I’m impressed. This band was mad prolific.
It is not easy to categorize the Beatles’ music; more than any other group, their sound can be described as “Beatlesque.” It’s akin to a combination of Badfinger, Oasis, Corner Shop, and everyother rock band that’s ever existed. The clandestine power derived from the autonomy of the group’s composition—each Beatle has his own distinct persona, even though their given names are almost impossible to remember. There was John Lennon (the mean one), Paul Stereo versionMcCartney (the hummus eater), George Harrison (the best dancer), and drummer Ringo Starr (The Cat).

In case JackRyan reads this thread: Abbey Road. Abbey Road is the album that I go back to when I want to hear the beatles. There are songs from the other albums that I like, but this is the one. However, as soon as the album ends I get this awful feeling that I would have felt much better had I just listened to the Velvet Underground.
For the record, I'm hoping that after a good re-listening to all these remasters I will find a way to enjoy more of it, but it's doubtful.

I couldn't see putting any of this on my ipod or something. Music is all relative though. Some people think Charles Mingus is a genius and other people think he can't keep a beat. There isn't a right answer when it comes to entertainment.

13 albums and countless tours in just 7 years. These guys were fuckin prolific. It is unfair to compare them with todays bands. They didn't have the technology or the same culture that we have today. (not saying better or worse, just incomparable)

I've been playing on Hard/Expert the past couple of days. The early songs are much more challenging than, say, the Abbey Road sessions.
I have a question though: I found this on YouTube. It says "While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Live) Solo". Now, I know the Beatles never played this song live, George did, but I've never heard this. Who is playing this, is it in Beatles Rock Band, and where the fuck do I get my hands on it?
- It's obviously not in the game as there's no animation. The comments say it's an inside-Harmonix test, but who performed the version they're playing there?5timuli
- performed the version they're playing there?5timuli
- Yellow Matter Custard. Paul Gilbert on guitar.moural
- Ah! I thought that was all gibberish Beatles tags. Found it, thanks! http://www.youtube.c…5timuli
- I have so much awe and respect for guitarists like that, thrashing away, not even looking at what the fuck they're playing.5timuli
- But seriously, I want this. I'll NEVER be able to play it, but I want it :(5timuli

so who is making the money now? Micheal Jackson had the right to Beatles' sons but he is dead too. so who now?

the just four guys podcast has information on the entire rockband/remastered box set, and how it came to be. It was really a group effort from everyone who was involved and had rights to the music.

unless you guys are in your 50s, stop caring about the Beatles.

I don't get the Beatles. My mother was a huge Beatles fan (her teen years were in the 60s) so I heard my fair share when I was young. But I have to say I took more of a liking to the Motown and 70s funk/soul records that she played as well ... Isaac Hayes, Barry White, The Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye ... and whatever genre of rock bands like Fleetwood Mac & The Doobie Brothers were. When I hear the Beatles now it seems to me that it's one of those bands that you had to be there, in that era to really be into. Kind of like when I tell my son I cried when Yoda and Vader died in Return of the Jedi ... and he looks at me like I'm crazy.
- i only really like couple of their songs. but dislike majority of their songs. i think you guys are just sick of all the hype out there.pango
- the majority of their super popular songs are not their best.Countryman
