Not saying that this would be the direction or even my submission, just an example but if we all submitted our names or a word to display mockups of letters then we could choose one and work toward that. each person could take a letter but refinements and changes would be made along the way to encourage best usage. As a goal, it should be something that is offered at fontsquirrel as a free webfont, that'd be neat.

    Let's do it 2012.

albums - I like the idea of a bit more focus/direction, but seeing the variety last time was arguably as interesting as having a usable font at the end, don't you think?

    • yeah there was really expressive work by most participants, but they've done that, try something else right?albums1/2

Everyone doing an individual letter won't work if the goal is to have cohesion. Pick a style (geometric would probably be best) and baseline grid, then everyone does a 5-6 letter word and we pick the glyphs we like best, eliminate or merge the duplicates, refine details, add ligatures (why stop at webfont?), etc.

So I vote that people pick a word from "The quick brown fox jumps over a lazy dog", this way we can ensure to have all the characters sooner. I have an AI template I can pass along to get everything started.

    • What about a new 2012 thread, with the files, and off we go?MrT
