Sorry we maybe being very stupid here but We have a random Mac on the network. It is not named but has a code after the name:
Mac00264A00F362Is there any way of finding out what it is and how to communicate with it.

We are above a Costa Coffee so wondered if someone has found a way onto our network

More likely you can see them (their Mac is advertising itself) but they can't see you.

Doesn't mean its a mac, could be anything

Yeah thats a MAC address not a Mac

Just change your router password and you'll be sorted.
Alternatively you can opt to not broadcast your network, so someone searching won't find it unless they know the details.

I think the problem is the other guy is broadcasting his network (and his computer). He probably can't even see you. I don't think there is any security problem here.

ok, that is possible.... I guess

you can check on most routers who is connected at any time so you can see if he is using it or not.

a lot of routers will let you filter by mac address as an extra security precaution. of course, they can be spoofed, but it's just extra security on top of WPA or whatever, as that can be cracked pretty easily now.
here's how to find mac addresses of your machines..
