I live right on boarder of Primrose hill and Chalk farm pros: close to Primrose hill, close to great bars, close to hampstead heath, close to camden but far enough away that its not complete sell out punks and puke on the footpath skoodsville, 15min ride into west end, close to Regents park and Hyde park, not right in Primrose hill or Belsize so I can afford to keep both my kidneys and eat.... cons not many great farmers mkts around but otherwise best place I have lived north of the river

north is nicer than south by far. currently livng south and miss north loads... was up in belisize park today which is nice, or i typically fancy Angel for the pubs, and the snappy snaps so I can get my pics developed.
- err... I'm in Crystal Palace at the mo - really nice round there and also close to Dulwich which is awesome. Plus its only 20 mins to victoria / London Bridge. Cheap too! Id stay but i work east so moving that way...gpop
- crystal palace is the furthest thing from nice since shit on a stick made out of frozen piss mate!set

ive got a flat in west hampstead. 5 min walk to the tube. along the high street and near a couple grocery stores. its a 15 minute tube ride into the west end depending on how the TFL is behaving that day.

You need to state budget, it's all very well saying hampstead, chalk farm and primrose hill, but those are some of the most expensive places outside of zone 1.
Tufnell Park is nice and more affordable, alothough it was getting more expensive and people were getting 'shoed' up into archway, which is a bit shit.

I could say that Bethnal Green is a great area.
But this would be blatant lying- Aww hey now I have nothing but fond memories of my time in Bethnal Green just down the road from the Florist pub.. good timesKidswift
- I have fond memories of living on BG road. Of course, those memories lie.max_prophet
- not so fond memories of living on cambridge heath road.max_prophet
- yeah - steer clear of Hackney road and bethnal green road - or at least living right on the main road - its fkn noisy at night in the summer with windows open - more than fine on a side street thogpop

avoid brick lane - great if youre a tourist, fookin awful after a few years and full of kunts. the whole place is full of trendies, i live around here and its just annoying now. same for dalston. some good bars though in the area. i fyou want to live around here i'd probably go a bit further out east, maybe around victoria park though not sure if thats cheap, worth a look anyway

Looking at a budget of about £1000 a month for rent give or take a few bob. would stretch to more if was worth it. Looking for a 1 bedroom place for me and my girlfriend.

I lived in Highgate for a while. Nice. But I actually preferred sarf of the river, Brixton and Clapham North.
I'd recommend spending the day on the northern line. Get off at each stop and take a stroll. Pop into a few estate agents.
Don't go east, its shit.

I'm north now but was in Brixton and liked it a lot.... what mono says above..you may have to move out a bit to get a nice place for you % GF for a grand a month tho.
If it's handy for transport it matters less if you are further out and place is what you want

What is there to do at Hampstead Heath, (apart from the bumming of course) can you Mountain bike or dirt board etc etc?
- max_prophet0
A grand a month is not going to get you much, don't waste your time looking in Hampstead or any of those fancy places. You'll need to decide whether you want a bit of space, or a studio in a nice area. Don't forget council tax is expensive too. Maybe Archway or Stoke Newington, but you'll be lucky to get anything there for that much tbh.
Even Hackney isn't that cheap anymore
- It seems to be enough for what we're looking for: http://www.foxtons.c…WhiteFace
- take some advice and don't use foxtonsmax_prophet
- £9K a month is reasonable huhmax_prophet

Live East!!! Hackney, Dalston, Bow, Clapton etc . You get a better place for your money and are close to where the its all at... Seriously F'all happening in the likes of Hampstead, Tufnell Park, Archway etc. I promise you, you will spend most of your time East anyway, its where the party is at.
- max_prophet0
as I said, a grand a month will only get you a studio flat in Hampstead..
