hello,
i'm redesigning the logo for this "green" supercomputer website:
http://www.green500.org/here's a few concepts i have so far:

make a jpg.....everyone doesn't want to download a pdf
- ukit0
Agreed...PDF is overkill unless you are sending to the actual client;)

Much improved! #1 you might want to consider making the line on the final "0" a calligraphic line so its a little "thick" to "thin" - just an idea.

I like the #4 and #5...mix of wires w/ the organic element. Maybe with a more handdrawn/ organic approach to the illustration part?

- from what i understand he designed the stripes as a way to reduce the blockiness of the old logoRand
- you're right - i was corrected below. Someone told me the screen metaphor once, and I believed themidentity
- regardless of its veracity - my rationale to the lines illustrates the point I was trying to make. Think in the Metaphor.identity

I feel scalability is an issue with all logos... Simplify imagery in order to compromise... I like the idea behind #1 but have seen it done somewhere... the "chip inside nature" ideas of 4 and 5 might work with the above advice... good hustle... ; )

Try to think more laterally, 'green' doesn't always have to entail a leaf and computers doesn't really mean just circuit boards.
it doesn't have to be a game of catchphrase

The first one feels the most natural to me. Playing with the "500" is working better than having an additional mark. I would suggest exploring that more, even downplaying the green a bit, and emphasizing the "500" more. Not bad though, overall.

easy, #2

how about a stylized leaf/power button hybrid or something

damn leftwave, hope you don't mind me saying but noticed you get a lot of logo gigs...
how are you landing all these identity projects? you taped into some logo outlet or something?

think supercomputers, think data flow, power etc. sketch a lot (on paper, it does help and you are faster in catching ideas, no matter how many illy shortcuts you know) don't play with type or colours before you got the idea right.
as of now they're all generic and #1 has been done so many times.

Think inside the space of the 00 in 500 man... sooo much potential in their...

a nice 500 could be another option, these seem really complicated to me. maybe make it into more of a symbol like the outlets above ^

- what the hell is that symbol...an O buggy about to tip over?dbloc

Are you being asked to design a logotype mark? If not, perhaps you could think of other ways of approaching the work.
In other words there a way to show what the name is, rather than spelling it out? Do you have to show the words 'Green 500' in the logo? Could you possibly create a stand-alone mark (the CBS eye, etc.), and include a logotype that can be used with or without it?
Also, aside from the circuitboard hand, I'm not sensing the supercomputer part of it. If I were to look at your first round a few more times, I'm not confident that I would get an idea of what it belonged to.
That being said, you have some good chops, so I'm sure you'll arrive at an outstanding solution.
Just my four cents.
