I have to do a Poster and booklet for a Chinese Auction.
Any ideas of fonts that could look Chinese??

Thanks Amby...
Can anyone think of anything that isn't too much of a cliché???

My advice would be to design it as though you didn't know it was "Chinese". I think anything that is too "stereotypical" will come off looking a bit ridiculous... Like the way that everything having to do with Africa is set in Koch's 'Neuland'...
What is the auction for? Granted, it's Chinese in origin - but is it focusing on a time-period? A specific province? Weapons? etc...
- It's a specific type of auction... more like a raffle than an auction. It's for a conservative Jewish clientbase so it isn't easy :)Amicus

as a chinese myself, i think this idea is brilliant, not saynig he is the 1st one to do it, it deconstruct the chinese character's stroke and make it into english character

Thanks peeps... I'm starting to get some ideas now.
Because we have to respect the Orthodox Jewish views of the clients customer base we cannot represent any idol worship (eg. dragons etc). They also seem to think that all Chinese Characters are squarish in shape, so I've found a couple of fonts that might fit the bill.
The Poster will be used in A1 and A3 and the booklet is DL.
I'm thinking of a long red brush stroke down the right with the text Chinese Auction written vertically, and prizes represented in the shapes of Chinese lanterns – i should be able to get away with those!
Any thoughts? This'll wait til Monday now.

Looking at another take on this... slightly less in your face Chinese. More subtle, possibly a calligraphic font with slight hints of something oriental?
Ideas?

You need examples of how poster design in Asia / China are done?

Personally, when ever I see a poster with Latin letters in chinese like manner, it seems to express lack of cultural understanding.
