I've been using to Indesign to layout
my type for websites for the last five
years, but cant seem to get my online type
clean, crisp and sharp as hell!:What are some secrets in getting cleaner type for online use?

as images or dynamic text
- gung_hoek0
crisp can´t be done, the browsers anti-aliase html-text to death.
- gung_hoek0
you could present your screens as photoshop export with aa tzurned off, but will look different executed. makes a real difference for small sizes (9px, 10px). colours off also.
- gung_hoek0
apple started it.

sorry, you have to click the above link!
but do you think the retouch all type after type setting?
- lambsy0
can we see a version of your 'uncrispy' type now?
- gung_hoek0
are we talking images?
- pauli0
yeah, images, gung.
Sorry for not clarifying.
- lambsy0
use fireworks.

don´t have a clue about indesign, i layout in and export from photoshop for web-screens. if type needs crispness: make 2 layers, one rendered originally, the next one rasterized > sharpen filter (1time, 2 time, depends), then adjust transparency of the latter until they combine nicely to crisp version, then export. if time allows i export the images myself, the devs tend to ignore subtleties like crispness, file-size, etc..

Thanks, will do, gung!
why would you recomend fireworks, lambsy?
- lukus_W0
I think the crispness (or lack of) is dependant on the way the text is anti-aliased on export.
- gung_hoek0
^ are you referring to compression? that´d be another variable to consider.
- gung_hoek0
also, sharp skins are the best
- pauli0
thanks for the help fellas, I think your right Lukus,
Illustrator seems to pixel by pixel rendering options upon
export.

in illustrator, you want to select the text and choose Rasterize. in the drop down menu choose Optimize for Text. set the rasterize resolution to 72dpi (screen resolution). The cool thing about this is it looks sharp but you can still edit the text, move it, change color, font, weight, etc.

but, sander, why is it that most designers swear by
setting web layouts in photoshop, when it does such a
shitty job in such a critical area?
