mediatemple DV is reliable. MT Grid is NOT, stay away!! In the end, you really do get what you pay for.

why is MT shit?

MT is absolutely fine - the old GS was dreadfully unreliable but I've had next to zero downtime on my new architecture GS. And also use a DV which is even better.
1&1 admin is absolutely horrendous.
I would imagine enginehosting.com is probably very good.

"new architecture gs"? what does that mean? that was change that MT did or a change that you did? (i'm mostly an as3 developer, this is bit new to me).

godaddy.com without a doubt!

Nice thing about MediaTemple as far as I can tell is the admin UI and ease of setup. They are maybe the only host that doesn't give you an ugly as shit dashboard with 10,000 icons.

Rackspace.com
Great, friendly, knowledgable support, have resolved 100% of my issues and requests, over the last 8 years, none of which were due to faults on their part.
Not the cheapest, but that's that the issue when you've got all your clients sites entrusted to them. Always there, always helpful, my most honest recommendation of any company, ever.

For personal stuff, I have a DV account with MT. It has been reliable, and I've never had any problems over the last 2 years.
I'm also about to set up a Dedicated machine with Wiredtree.com at work. Rackspace.com is supposed to be top notch, and I've also heard good things about Servint.com, Gigenet.com and Liquidweb.com.

Funny how everyone says media temple, yet there are multiple threads complaining about shit with them:

I'm using webfaction for development work -> I reckon their shared hosting plan is good, because you have a lot of freedom to install whatever you like... and the support is v good. Not so sure how good they are for largescale hosting requirements - but so far no complaints at all. http://www.webfaction.com?affili…...
