Noob question about rates

So I am still in school, but I've been doing some freelance work here and there. Yesterday this woman offered me a job designing websites for her. She apparently has a consistent flow of websites and needs a new designer. She also said I would have to sign a noncompete working agreement, and that is where the question comes in...
She asked what my hourly rate is and I'm not sure what to say. The fact that I have to sign a noncompete working agreement means that I should be payed enough to not need to seek outside freelance work, right? If that's the case than my current rate of $25/hr is too low, I think...
What do you guys think? I'm just so nooby that I don't want to say the wrong thing.
Oh, and also, what about my current projects? Would I have to finish them before signing the noncompete agreement?
Thanks.

Don't sign a non-compete for any price, especially since you're still in school and don't have a mortgage, etc.

Kalamazoo isn't a real place, is it?

Ask her what she means by "non compete." Most non compete agreements are narrowly defined. It seems reasonable for her to ask not to steal clients that she is working with. On the other hand you're making it sound like it would ban you from working on any other design projects. That seems a little crazy to me, especially for someone just giving you a freelance job here and there.

wow peoples have heard of Kalamazoo, that makes me smile.
But, uh, yeah, I guess I'll have to get more info, I thought noncompete meant no more design for anyone else, I'm glad to hear differently. Thanks everyone for help.

as a student, 25 an hour is ok....but its not a lot if you are going to file a 1099...its probably just fine if you are doing a W2.
