  You can buy kits to make GPS / wireless controlled plane models - which can range over a mile from where-ever you launch them. It wouldn't be that much of a stretch of the imagination, to think one of these is a UFO.

  There was a great documentary in the UK a few years back. A group of guys built a UFO to scare the locals and flew it remotely over fields in south-east England. I forget the name of it but they did a pretty good job. It hovered about 50 feet off the ground and they stored it in a barn.
