I recall a website that replaced curse words with funny/nice/obscure words instead. This limited the use of such words because the comment ended up looking ridiculous if they used swear words. I can't remember the site I saw this on, but I'm trying to duplicate its results.
Do you know of sites that effectively do this?
Do you know of a php plugin or even an array of common blacklist words to get me started?

why don't you just let people say what they want? if they feel like swearing, they probably have a reason and if you see *beep* and *censored* everywhere don't you still read fuck and shit? swearing ensures peace, less bottled-up hatred you know.
