I have one and I love it. I use an external monitor so the laptop screen isn't an issue. It's a lot of computer for not a lot of money. I've stopped using my desktop computer (I bought the laptop for travel only).

    • I prefer the size to the 15". It's much lighter and more manageable.Josev1/2
i just sold my 15" to cop the 13" new model with longer battery lifesublocked2/2

Apple applies a variation of the the pareto principle when it comes to customers' needs: satisfy 80% regulars, screw the remaining 20% power users.
They have a write-up on in it.

I have the older 13" - I throw cuss words out when I'm forced to do edits on it. It's hooked up to the LCD 99% of the time.

The 2GHz white one, with 4GB RAM. Works surprisingly well, but I don't do print.raf2/3
To be clear - the cuss words come out when I'm on its 13" screen, otherwise it's just fine :)raf3/3

I don't mean to be a dick but this is why you research before you buy. If you would you would have found that all of Apples notebooks and most notebooks on the market use 6bit screens which dither to reach millions of colors. Apples site says it "supports millions of colors". This is misleading yes, but it is not necessarily a lie. A simple google search on LCD laptop screens brings up a ton of info.

And honestly, what serious designer, video or film maker, photographer or otherwise uses a 13" laptop monitor to check colors???? I mean get a real monitor and hook it up. You won't see the big boys hunched over their 13" screens. Come on.

Isn't it like this on all MBPros? My 17" certainly doesn't do 16.7 million colors, there's pretty obvious dithering. Do the newer bigger ones use full-color panels for sure?

I am planning to get a mac, but don't know which one. I have 20" screen (dell 2005wfp) and I was thinking about mac mini or mbp (13 or 15). The thing is that I want to run OS X and XP pro (for Visual Studio). For sure that will be mac from refurb shop.

somewhere in the middle of that story you wrote: "They offered to give me a full refund of my purchase."

That's awesome. End the story there and then edit the rest to say:
"Let it be known that the 13" has 6-bit color screens."

Pretty much all notebooks, laptops etc will use a 6 bit display. There are virtually no TN panels that will display in true 8 bit (or none in a notebook/laptop anyway).

I do think it is wrong of Apple to claim millions of colours when in fact it will only display 260 odd thousand. But to claim that the MPB is to be avoided because it has a 6 bit display like every other laptop is plain stupidity.

A lot of designers who use 20 inch aluminum iMac don't know it has a crappy TN panel, unlike its white plastic predecessor ot the 24 inch model.

if you display colour number 734,746 and it's next to colour number 734,745 of the "millions of colours" that you wish to see - can you tell the freaking difference???!?

if you design for print, then you'll be use pantones etc - so it doesn't how it looks on screen, it's the print that's important. if you design for web, then most other people will be seeing it on crappy pc's and crappy monitors. so you don't need to worry. and the image will likely be compressed.

so unless you're doing scientific research into colours displayed on computer monitors - i fail to see why it's so important...

    • it doesn't "matter" how... missed a word there...felizfeliz

I don't think any laptop has 8bit color panels except some 17in models. The dithering is pretty bad on my 15in Macbook pro, especially on BW photos, but what can you do...

Apple has a right to use whatever display they'd like. The only problem here is the advertising of "millions of colors" instead of just being honest about it. If you were mislead by their advertising, take some screenshots and any proof you may have and file a report with the FTC:
