Does anyone know anything about LEDs and LED controllers? I have a shoot coming up and I'm interested in using 2 strips, each one about 6 feet long. to create a "sci-fi" scene. Ideally I could purchase a small kit that would have a controller as well.
Thanks!

define controller, like an on/off switch, or to make the lights travel and move and such

- right, I'm not close to being an expert and I want to get some but I don't know what's better or worse...robotron3k

check out http://www.makezine.com/
lots of little LED based projects on there

that stuff is expensive... may have to check ebay.

I bought some for cove lighting in my place, but they do not change color (they come in different colors).
Got 'em here: http://www.noveltylights.com/
They just plugin to a regular wall socket. I think they came in 8' segments.
Using these in a building we are designing/building for cover lighting in the ceiling and kitchen island. Great stuff, not too expensive. Not as snazzy as what you are looking for, I'd guess, but maybe they have something.
- cool, i'm really looking for something to give just a bit of sciffi look. i'm putting together a sleep chamber. tks!!robotron3k
- np. I'd recommend the zip tie/sticker fasteners - let's you stick the strips to almost anything easilyformed

i usually get my leds from http://www.ledshoppe.com/ or http://www.superbrightleds.com/. in terms of a controller, that thing would be easy to build with even the most basic electronics knowledge. but if you need a kit solution, you can usually find things like that at sparkfun http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce…. be sure to get 360º visibility leds, preferably with a diffusive glow.

check out sparkfun for sure... but make sure you know a geek that can solder and program with the arduino hardware/software
its easy stuff if you have an electrical engineering degree, for creatives like me you might have to burn thru a few capacitors and LED's before you get it right. but its cheap to put together and there is a lot of control available if you build it yourself as opposed to buying off the shelf parts.
