Looking at learning a different keyboard layout but cant decide between Dvorak or Colemak. Anyone done the transition from Qwerty?
Cheers

why?

it gives you NERD points I assume

As far as I'm aware qwerty was designed to slow typists down back in the day of the typewriter's. Thought it would be best to give a more optimized layout a shot.
Doing the test above shows a good comparison between the three.

ok, so the computing world has made a mistake with the qwerty layout, but if you were to learn dvorak, buying a laptop, or using someone else's computer would always be a pain no? or do you think you'd be able to switch like being bilingual?
English may not be the most efficient language, but it's certainly handy to be good at it.

do you not have any friends or something?

It would be more productive to learn to type QWERTY fast I guess

@max_prophet Sure do, just thought as I'm on a computer over 10 hours a day it might be usefull to give this a once over.
@mydo Don't think I'l ever forget the QWERTY layout but I think il hopefully be able switch when needed.
I guess everyone has stuck with QWERTY then ;)

think about how much harder it will be to type QWERTY in dvorak!

"...studies in the ergonomics literature find no significant advantage for Dvorak that can be deemed scientifically reliable."

Is this for real?

Just randomly switch your keys around every few days. That'll keep you on your toes.
