what's wrong with papervision?

I wouldn't say that there's anything wrong with it, per se, but many designers are seduced by the concept of 3D + Flash, that they assume that it can do everything Maya can do. That being said, later versions of Papervision have improved. I guess I'm just advising to tread carefully into it. It's not a cake walk.

so it's a bitch to use?
- no, keep it simple - think long and hard about what 3d does for your concept. Make it great.mikotondria3

- Of course it's a bitch to use. You're scripting 3D environments.CyBrain

insane client expectations are the possible issue....

I don't really understand Papervision.
I went to the site and just see some jenky looking fish swimming around.

I wonder if it's worth it to learn Papervision since CS4 has native 3D graphics and classes.
I'm not sure, but can you import 3D objects from 3D apps into Flash using the CS4 3D functionality?

Sadly, no. The current workflow is to model your work in a 3D app that can export Collada files, which will then be imported into Papervision. From there, you kinda rebuild the 3D work that was done in the previous app, and port it to the web. Building the Papervision app happens almost outside of Flash, but not entirely. Like I said, it's quite a few complicated steps. That being said, if you use it sparingly and don't try to push it beyond its capacity, it could be compelling. These folks use it well: http://www.whitevoid.com/portfol…
