Canadian Standard of Living Plummets Lower, Approaching Lost Decade: NBF

    https://betterdwelling.com/canad…

“The country received a number of warnings from prominent agencies, that building an economy focused on credit creation and housing isn’t sustainable. Rather than acknowledging these issues, the country doubled down on trying to stimulate housing demand. In the process, it’s also managed to send global investment fleeing for greener pastures in record volumes.

The OECD previously forecast real GDP growth that indicated quality of life would stagnate. Canada would occupy the growth spot that Greece did during the financial crisis, but for decades. That forecast is looking generous these days.”

Canada ranked 6th-most miserable country by think tank.
(*out of 35 countries, but still.)

On Tuesday, the Fraser Institute revealed where 35 countries rank on its Misery Index, an economic measure based on inflation and unemployment rates.

With its Misery Index score of 10.88, Canada was the sixth-most miserable country, thanks to its 3.15 per cent inflation rate and 7.7 per cent unemployment rate in 2021.

Spain was the most miserable, with a score of 17.61, followed by Greece with 15.73, Italy with 11.96, and Iceland with a score of 11.26.

Japan and Switzerland were the least miserable countries, with scores of 2.61 and 3.57, respectively.

France, the U.S., Australia, and the U.K. were all deemed less miserable than Canada.

Americans trust Canadians more than themselves: survey

    https://montreal.ctvnews.ca/amer…

According to the survey, 72.5 per cent of Americans trust Canadians, compared to 70 per cent who trust other Americans.

On the flip side, 88 per cent of Canadians trust their countrymen but only 34 per cent trust Americans.

Twenty-one per cent of Canadians don't trust Americans at all while only 7.2 per cent of Americans feel that way about their northern neighbours.

According to Jack Jedwab, President and CEO of ACS, the U.S. and Canadian governments’ approaches to the COVID-19 pandemic greatly influenced respondents’ trust in the countries.

“There was a big slide in trust when you compare the answers from April to the pre-pandemic ones from November,” Jedwab told CTV News.

There are over 550,000 native french speakers in Ontario. They pay taxes, and they have the right to continue their education in their own language. French and English are the official languages of this country, so it's not like an immigrant minority asking us to adapt to them. This is our citizens demanding that their right to education be upheld.

It's totally unacceptable to me that a province, which is required by the constitution to manage education, would deprive tax payers of the higher education they actually pay for already. This goes to show what kind of a low life Doug Ford is, he doesn't care about our institutions that ultimately bind us together. He doesn't see that this would be a source of strength, having two major cities in this country with proper universities that are fully french would be a major achievement for Canada. You would actually start to see young people from France come in for a degree and maybe stay and enrich our country more...

anyways, I'd gladly kick that fat fuck in the face if I had the chance.

    • Ontario is not a bilingual province and either is Quebec.spot13
    • What's your point? Education is still a right. He talks about balancing the budget, when in fact they actually pay enough taxes to have their own uni.zarkonite
    • My point is that if you want bilingual schools, vote in a government that would make Ontario bilingual.spot13
    • Otherwise there is always New Brunswick - the only French and English province - where the public education system is available in both official languagesspot13
    • There are english public schools in Quebec from K to PhD. The point of having rights is to protect minorities, your scenario of a bilingual government willzarkonite
    • never happen. The math can't work. As a matter of fact, they did have a french speaker and she quit cuz they told her to shut up.zarkonite
    • You're right, Ontario is not likely to become a bilingual province seeing how 96% of Ontario residents don't speak Frenchspot13
