Okay, so I saw "UP" last weekend... Pretty darn good, even though the previews didn't seem all that enticing. Every time I see a new Pixar film, I try to rank it among their other titles... here's my top 4:
1. The Incredibles
2. Wall-e
3. Toy Story 1
4. UP
5. Finding Nemo

Did I say top 4? I meant, top 5!

you've given me faith in UP... along w/everyone else telling me to go see it...
... and yeah - I agree w/your initial assessment that the previews are 'meh' for this film - I'm not excited to see it based on just the previews at all... thanks for the post though - now I'm solidified on the idea that I will pay for this at a theater... probably during the day when you chumps are all at work or school. :)

for the birds.
pixar are far far better at animated shorts than full length features.
- That says something for their short films because their full length features are far far better than anybody else's.MondoMorphic

A top 5 is too hard. They haven't made a single flop.

I love their animated shorts as well... but it's a bit like apples and oranges to me... Nothing is as memorable or timeless as "Geri's Game" (the old man playing chess against himself... LOL!!!

gibli and pixar are after different styles/stories/substance. *That's apple and oranges.... and both are awesome!

Top 5's hard but Ratatouille's up there for me... and Finding Nemo would be if it wasn't for Ellen, thought her voiceover/character was annoying.

For me Toy Story is their best, they put so much into it. For its time the animation/rendering was just groundbreaking. Also the story is great.
After that I think the first 30 minutes of Wall-E alone was incredible.
I have a big book about pixar full of concept sketches, storyboards etc the love and artistry they put into every element of their work is astounding, no other company has their studio culture and so will never produce work full of as much love as they do.
Next to pixar dreamworks looks cold and cynical. I hated the shrek films for their cynicism and cheap pop culture in-jokes, those films have no longevity. Pixar make films that are great irrespective of the fact that they are CGI- +1!! What's the name of the book?Brainiac
