do you guys think that, when presenting a logo to a client, the more versions for them to choose from the better? this way the client gets what they think is good. or is it better to be selective about what you show the client and try to push what you think looks good?

selective. never show more than 3
- you are the logo expert, not them. you make the decisions.baseline_shift

We rarely show more than 1.

No. More options just confuses the client and suggests that you don't know which is the 'right' one. Three options is a maximum. If you feel strongly that on direction is the right one, just show that one. But have a strong rationale behind it, and keep the other two directions handy just in case.

what if they ask for revisions? at what point should you not let the client make design decisions?

Only show the comps you won't feel bad about seeing on their letterhead in the first round. If they just don't get what you are trying to do then break out some of the other in the second meeting. Don't let them know you already had more done. (My two cents)
- this works well. the client should get some say, but you should guide their decision.baseline_shift

Present strong concepts that you believe in. That way, if revisions, or downright start-overs are asked for, you can open a dialogue as to why you professionally agree or disagree. Keep in mind that you're going to have to translate their poor ideas, or indecisiveness into something you're happy with, so start that way.
If it gets really hairy, you can always state your professional opinion, and walk away.
- And definitely, never be afraid of walking away, sometimes, it's really just not worth it.brains

Also, begin with the end in mind, set out from the start agreeing on two or three goals for the logo. That way when they start to himmer haw around about the comps you can reign them in by referring back to the goals that you both agreed on at the start. • Now, this assumes that you meet the goals with your comps.

If you show them 5 they'll tell you they want pieces of all 5.
- TOTALLY! if you show them 10 they will want all 10.rippedursite
- That's was a regular occurrence until we cut the comp presentation down to 2 or 3.Starwell99
