I need to print white stock business cards that only use shades of black (50% and 25%).
I want to print online, as it's usually the most cost effective.
Can anyone suggest a good online printer that can give me a high quality print on a nice 150+ stock?
Thanks!

I really want a nice heavy matte stock. I feel like most of these printers offer gloss & satin.
- seriously, don't bother with nice stock if you're just printing 50% Khorton

a CMYK design made up of 50% and 25% black is gonna look really cheap. screens of 1 ink without any solid = very weak visual impact.
printing local with 1 spot color (solid mid grey) and tinting that 50% for the light would be mcuh better and probably just as inexpensive.
- even better yet of course would be a 2 spot color m/grey + l/grey... still probably comparable cost to online CMYK.horton

i am holding an overnight cards (that's who i used last time for their free spot uv) and i consistently have the thickest cards of anyone else i see/meet

and with 2 shades of really dark gray, i can easily distinguish between them

I think I'm going to go with @horton's advice.
What do you think I should be paying for two sided cards?
One side will have 1 spot grey.
The other side will have 2 spot greys.

What's with all these designers and their insistence on shitty online printing. The mind boggles.
Don't print it on matte, don't print it on any coated paper. Print your business cards on uncoated. Anything else feels cheap and mass produced.
Two spot grays (say, 404 and 401) will look a lot better than screens of a single color. Or if the budget demands, use one color only.

Matt,
it's short run and does the job, i have used dolchepress for clients and personal work in the past, but to me it's not the thread to put that information in. so we answer the questions we're asked you holier than though elitest fuck
much love, Justin

Also, be careful about the weight of the paper you choose. For a business card, it can feel wasteful if it's too thick. I think somewhere in the 100–130lb. range is good, but I realize that's a bit subjective.

also, you're support of indigo printers except when an online vendor uses them is just as discomforting as the idea of some virgin bitch giving birth to gods baby

Justin—first, relax—nobody's getting personal here. What I'm on about is designers not being taught or caring about basic production values. I'm not suggesting this kid die cuts his cards out of stainless steel or engraves them three color with ink drawn from the veins of baby lambs and mermaids. I'm just saying that these online printing companies produce shite business cards, and if you can't see the difference in quality then I'm that's not a reflection of my elitism, but rather your lack of exposure, or interest in good printing. Not top-of-the-line, exclusive printing mind you, just decent ol' lithography is what I'm talking about.
The guy asked questions and I answered them as I thought they should be answered. I'm not going to steer a designer to an online print company if he asks for it because it will sell him short.

Maybe you missed what I said then, I was getting real fucking personal. go back and reread it, and take offense to the fact I didn't capitalize god while you're at it.

Hmm... eh, I'd say your hyperbole is just a *tad* bit overblown. You'd think I said your family rode the short bus or something judging by your reaction.
It doesn't matter if they use a Xerox, a Heidelberg, or an Indigo. When you can't control the quality of a printed piece in person, the outcome always suffers. I've experienced this many times with my own work, so this isn't about me being better than anyone.
- I kind of have to agree with that second sentence, 2nd paragraph.dMullins

with respect and love for my fellow humans, Justin.
btw, I missed you in the politics thread, I really wanted to hear your input on the Tiller situation. < that's a serious request

scarabin.... there is a little known island off the south coast of Greece where mermaids sing sailors to their doom. If you can resist them they will gladly let you take their blood for ink, cause fortunately for us they are emo's.

Passionate arguments about design and printing. That's what I like to see!
- Unfortunately this has nothing to do with design or printing, I'm afraid.Scotch_Roman
- At least there's passion!dMullins
