advice on dealing with noise? i just moved in today to a studio on a busy street, 3rd floor, and traffic noise is worse than i thought it would be. its calming down now that its 9PM on a sunday.....
granted i'll be working afternoon evenings so hopefully it won't be that bad......

Play music in the house to drown out the sound. I live in NYC, so noise is music to my ears at night. I can't fall asleep without it.

Hopefully you'll get used to it. I use to live near a airport and got use to it where I didn't even here it anymore.

get used to it.

I used to live above a highway, had lots of windows so the sound was pretty bad. Thing was, it was noisier at night; less traffic, cars going faster. Daytime it was constant gridlock; this was pretty close to downtown Chicago. I guess I just got used to it, but it took a while.

i lived in a pub on shepherds bush green in '94. the traffic and fucking sirens (police/fire/ambulance) were all night. if you try you can get used to any noise. when i came back to aus i couldn't sleep properly for about a month as it was too quiet.
the key is to try and ignore it rather than let it constantly get to you. if you let it get to you you'll sub/consciously remind yourself to be annoyed all the time.

eventually you won't hear it, then, someday, you'll move to somewhere quiet and you won't be able to sleep without the noise. pretty much what bump said is going to happen to you

you'll get used to it. I live on a busy corner. Girlfriend moved in two years ago and took her a few weeks but now its fine.
Some morning we wake up laughing at all the roadrage obsenities people shout at each other

i live 1/2 a block from a police station and 2 blocks from a hospital. you get used to the noise pretty quickly.

You'll probably get used to it.

earplugs - try the low decibel ones first. They should knock the sound down enough to sleep, but you'll still be able to hear your phone ring or fire alarm go off. soud

yep you'll get used to it. there's nothing you can do.
I got used to it and live right in front of a horrible intersection. It's sometimes fun to listen to the gf/bf fights at 4am, or the ambulances stopping in front at 3 am, the car crashes every 3 days...I got myself a while ago an air purifier and its sound is very calming. Get one.

soon enough you won't be able to sleep in quiet conditions.
what a twisted reality.

i used to live above a storage warehouse where these jackasses drove a diesel forklift and screamed in cantonese at 5 in the morning.

last night ... 2am ....outside my open window (im 2 floors up but still sounds like RIGHT outside).
drunk girl "F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF! F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF!F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF!F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF!"
drunk guy "garbled nonsense"
drunk girl "F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF! F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF!F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF!F*CK OFF! JUST F*CK OFF!"
*SMASH!* (window getting smashed)
drunk guy "Where the F*CK is he? eh? W
here the F*CK is he?!!!"
*guy wanders off down street*about 3/4 hour later ....
*WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR* (drilling noise)
I looks out window, some glazier guy drilling a 8x4 ply board in the street to cover the smashed window.
*drilling and hammering for another twenty mins*
Thats the price you pay for city centre living.
I stay on a busyish street with folk going past drunk in the early hours. Nowhere near as noisey when I used to stay just off the Grassmarket in Edinburgh (area with lots of pubs n clubs, stag and hen do's, pissed-up rugby knobs etc).
Some of the arguements you hear/see out the windows in the early hours are pretty funny though hehe.
