Less than a year old and it crashed beyond repair. i can't even revive it with Disk Warrior and now I simply cannot reformat it. Disk Utility doesn't even see it in order for me to reformat it. guys DO NOT BUY IOMEGA. They're cheap and there's a reason why. LaCie kinda sucks too by the way.

iomega does not actually make the drives. I think they use Seagate hard drives.
Do your research and make sure the next external drive you get uses a different hard drive manufacturer. I would go Western Digital....even though Seagate actually makes good drives too.

u could build your own by purchasing a seagate and wiebetech case. they work pretty good for me.

I always try to use seagate hdd's and have never had a problem with any of them (knock on wood). I have a 500gb external that is about a year old that works great and a 80gb portable hdd that is about 3 yrs old now that still works like a charm.

I've got a pile of seagates and WesternDigitals.. only had one die on me and that was a LaCie.. commodity drives seemed more reliable than designer-looking models, according to a system admin I asked...

they still make them?

All luck. I've had a drive by every manufacturer die over the last 10 years.

Never had a problem with LaCie, myself.

Buy server grade drives, 2x more expensive but kinda worth it.

i used to go seagate, but the 11th generation of their barracuda drives manufactured end of 2008 all went out with firmware issues that have been causing massive failures.
