i have adsl 2 (australia) 1500.
what hub do i need to share the connection between 2 computers? 100mbps or 100mbps?
does it matter?
in the shop now

between the 2 choices, i'd go with either one since they're both the same choice.

100mbps... for sure.

sorry - i meant 1000mbps or whatever it is

even 10mbps Ethernet or any WiFi speed would be fine for sharing the internet connection (the bottleneck is your 1.5 mbps ADSL) but 100mbps will be better ifor stuff like quickly copying lots of files between computers...

'hub' isn't what its called.. do you mean a wireless router, wired router, or just a switch?
- ribit0
but basically.. buy any decent brand ADSL wireless router/basestation. (I like Netgear)

a hub is "dumb" and just broadcasts the signal on every port, a router generally offers more things like port forwarding, NAT, etc..
- I think nobody sells hubs anymore?ribit
- switches are better than hubsribit
- are routers and switches the same?acescence
- no, router distributes local IP addresses from one internet connection....ribit
- switch just gives you ability to add more computers on your local network, but wont handle the IP allocation...ribit
- ..which you need if your ISP only gives you on IP address.ribit

use crossover cable ...

And 'N' WiFi is good too (up to 300mbps), rather than 'g' (54mpbps)

Faster is always better.
Except where rotational velocities of propellers and the introduction of faces thereinto is concerned, though this is somewhat dependent upon perspective.

done. got it. thx
- ribit0
and you aren't going to tell us what it is?

dlink switch. got me jargons mixed up before. thought it was a hub.
so sue me
- ribit0
but just a modem and a switch wont be enough (or do you already have a router? but then why would you need the switch....)
